Fishing Christmas Gifts – Arts, Crafts and Other Ideas

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Fishermen and fishing enthusiasts enjoy a wide range of Christmas and holiday gifts. Because fishing has so many specialized forms, the art, crafts and gift industries have responded with gifts for every niche as well as gift items that are suitable for general fishing enthusiasts.

While fishing may have been a sport that was dominated by men in the past, modern fishing includes both sexes and has become much more of a family activity. Today’s market includes gifts created specifically for men, women and children of all ages.

Sweatshirts are an excellent choice for fishermen. Most anglers spend at least some time fishing in cool weather and a fishing-related sweatshirt is almost always a welcome addition to their wardrobe. Online stores have fishing sweatshirts of every type imaginable.

Traditional jigs are always appreciated by anglers. Jigs are among the most widely used fishing lures in the world. They are available in every size imaginable, designed to catch fish from the tiniest perch to monster tuna. These include bucktail jigs, vinyl jigs and jig heads made to accept plastic bodies patterned after shad, herring, ballyhoo, shrimp or other baitfish.

There are also metal jigs in a variety of sizes and shapes, as well as new designs of large metal jigs for catching tuna, wahoo and other pelagic species. Jigs and other lures are available from a variety of online fishing tackle suppliers or from your local tackle shop.

Fishing coffee mugs are popular with fishermen. Online stores offer an excellent selection of coffee cups and mugs decorated with images of fish icons. Cups and mugs are available in several sizes and there is a product for virtually every species of fish and type of fishing.

For shoppers that want to give high quality food as a gift, fresh seafood is available right off the boat. Lobsters, crabs, shrimp, clams, oysters, scallops, mussels, fish and other seafood is all available online, ready to be shipped overnight in special chilled containers. Online stores also offer frozen seafood products, either uncooked or fully cooked meal entrees.

Gift baskets are another option when choosing a fishing-related gift for a loved one. Baskets are available that contain single types of products or a mixture of several items such as smoked salmon or other fish, canned smoked oysters, caviar, canned stews, wild game, cheeses, condiments and other treats.

Cookbooks and fishing novels and magazines are favorite gifts for fishermen. These are available at local bookstores or via online specialty stores. Other forms of printed media suitable for gift giving include journals and other gifts.

Posters, prints and calendars are great gifts for anglers. Whether it’s meant to decorate a den, garage or fishing cabin, calendars, prints or fish identification posters will be appreciated and proudly displayed by fishing enthusiasts.

For anglers that enjoy artwork, fish rubbings, or Gyotaku are a potential gift idea. The Gyotaku technique relatively simple. Artists apply paint or ink to an actual fish, then lay paper or canvas on top of it. The paper or other media is rubbed over the fish and gently peeled off to expose the likeness.

Not to be overlooked are freshwater and saltwater fish ornaments. Artists and crafters offer a wide range of Christmas and holiday ornaments that feature photographs, paintings or logos of a favorite fish species. These make excellent gifts and ornaments of several species can be combined to create specialized collections.

When preparing for the Christmas season, shoppers may also want to check out fishing-related Christmas cards, postcards or note cards. Some cards will have fishing photos or prints, while others will display a particular species of fish. These cards make good choices when sending holiday greetings to fellow anglers and boaters.

Teen Games That Border on the Grotesque!

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Teen games are the perfect compliment to a party, get together, or church youth group. Teens love to compete and if the activity has a hint of gross and disgusting, all the better and all the more interest! Here’s a few teen games. Try them if you dare, but be sure to have buckets or garbage cans on hand, along with parental permission. They’re not for the faint at heart!

To get the disgusting game ball rolling, start with some “easy” teen games that don’t rate 10 on the barf-o-meter.

KISS THE FISH
Have everyone sit in a circle and play some lively music, while passing around the circle a dead fish with the head still attached. when the music stops, whoever is left holding the fish must kiss it on the lips!

SLIMY TWISTER
Have enough twister mats so all of your teens may play simultaneously or make your own using pieces of heavy plastic. Place a paper plate on each circle and fill it with a food representative of that color. For example, ketchup for red, raw egg yokes for yellow, split pea soup for green, applesauce with blue food coloring for blue. Proceed to play the game as normal. To make things a little more disgusting, add fish oil or fish bait to all of your substances. This way, when people are bent over the plates the aroma will be disgusting, not to mention the “lovely” smell they will all have on their hands and clothes. Make sure everyone knows ahead of time to wear old clothes, as they will get stained.

Now that you’ve got your teens warmed up, its time to play some seriously disgusting teen games guaranteed to make someone hurl!

JUST EAT IT!
Split your teens into teams and line them up. Give each team a blindfold and a grocery bag filled with various food and drink. All the bag contents and blindfolds should be identical. The first person of each team puts on the blindfold, reaches into the bag, pulls something out, and eats it. Once their food or drink is consumed, they are free to run to the finish line and back to their team. Once the next person in line is tagged, they proceed to repeat the process. Whichever team gets through all of their players first is the winner. Fill the bag with things that most teens wouldn’t want to eat. Examples: Sardines, raw onion, red peppers, liverwurst, cooked piece of liver, anchovies, cold creamed spinach, buttermilk, okra, mayonnaise, hot mustard, cold pea soup, limburger cheese, cold cooked brussel sprouts, lima beans, raw oysters, etc. Put foods into small snack-sized Zip-loc bags.

KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT
Line up your teens and give them each a giant super sour Pixy straw. On “Go,” everyone dumps the entire contents of the straw into their mouth, closes their mouth, and proceeds to try and be the last person to keep their mouth shut. The tongue and mouth begin to get acid burns, which eventually makes the weaker links spit it out.

PICKLES, ICE CREAM & HOT SAUCE–OH, MY!
The title says it all. Have everyone sit in a circle and eat a bowl of ice cream with chopped up garlic dill pickles mixed in, and hot sauce poured on top. Bon Appetit! Whoever finishes the ice cream first is the winner.

N Scale Model Trains: Why You Should Collect Them!

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Model trains come in many different scales, which is the ratio between the real thing and the model train. One of those scales is the N class that is second only to the most popular HO model. According to the scale chart the N class ratio is 1:148 irrespective of the particular train that it is imitating.

One of the major problems that train collectors generally face is finding the right kind of space where they can display their model railroad layout. The fact that the N scale model trains are small in size allows them to be displayed on a relatively small surface. Collectors have said that this is one of the biggest factors contributing to the popularity of this scale. Even collectors living in apartments may find the space to put up a layout.

A big advantage of the N scale is that, due to its size, it allows you to create a detailed railroad layout. The size is perfect, since it is large enough to display sufficient detail in the locomotive and cars and yet small enough to allow for an extremely elaborate model railroad layout with very detailed topography and cities. In other words, it is not so small that you can’t work with it, and yet, not so large that you can’t manage it. Hence forth, for many collectors, it is the perfect fit.

N scale model trains are also preferred because of the high level of detailing that can be found on them. It is important to know that the N scale is not the smallest of the model trains. The Z scale model trains are much smaller and may be a good fit for people with very little space. Those who purchase the Z scale will compromise on the quality of the detail to the train, as they do not offer the realistic visible aspect that you are able to find with the N scale.

Price is yet another advantage of collecting the N scale model train over the HO or other larger trains. In recent years this particular scale has gained a lot of popularity and the net result is a reduction of the selling price. Since it has become so popular, the overall production of the N scale toy model train has increased. And with all markets price is driven by supply and demand. Since supply is up manufacturers are selling them at a lower market price. Furthermore, you will be able to find a wide variety of accessories catering to this scale at an affordable price.

There are also a wide variety of fuel choices in the N scale model trains. Electric powered trains are by far the most popular. For collectors, the electric model is also considered to be the best choice. Steam powered models are also very popular in the N scale along with an electric version that creates a steam effect.

The N class has been around since 1927 although it was not commercially produced until 1962. If you are considering getting into model railroad collecting the N scale may be the perfect fit for you. I would suggest that you visit a model train show in your area before you begin to invest in this hobby. Getting off to the right start will on increase your enjoyment of this great hobby. Good luck and happy collecting.
